Hadrian's Wall, Northumbria
Photographs of Hadrian's Wall In the second century, Emperor Hadrian decided that he needed to separatethe Roman Empire from the Scots, so he built a wall across the country. Quite an achievement, thoughwhere he built it (a little south of the present day Scottish border) onlyrequired 87 miles of stone. An impressive enough feat, but the fact that nearly two thousand years later, thewall is mostly still there, and in good condition, snaking most of the wayacross the entire island, is more amazing. Also see Hadrian's Wall Panorama.
